Peru: Fujimori to become the next president

We are the final leg of Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales (ONPE, the office responsible for organizing the election) vote counting and the odds of Keiko Fujimori becoming the next president has increased. At the time we are sending this InBrief, she was trailing behind Roberto Sánchez by 20,355 votes. However, there are 1,547 voting records contested and that have been sent to the Jurados Electorales Especiales (JEE, the local electoral juries) for revision and will have to be opened in public assemblies and each has between 250 and 350 votes. Of these 914 are from Lima, where Fujimori has won 60-to-30 Sanchez. Then, there are the voting records of the polling stations in other countries. In total there are 1,720 voting records to be counted and an additional 48 sent to the JEE. On this Fujimori is outbeating Sanchez by 65-to-35. True there are some voting records from provinces where Sanchez has an edge, but most had been counted. For instance, In Apurimac, one of Sanchez stronghold, there are non voting records to be counted; in Puno as well; in Cusco there are 225 pending; and in Cajamarca zero. We have been doing some statistical scenarios -- together with many analysts--  and most of outcomes indicated that Keiko Fujimori may become the next president. We still need to wait for the results from ONPE and JEE, but this may happen in the next days. In fact, markets have already priced in this outcome and the PEN/USD spot exchange rate is trading at PEN3.5 to the USD and should continue in the following days and we don't rule out levels of 3.1 to 3.2. The key question is if Sanchez and his followers would accept these results.
