A massive police operation against the Comando Vermelho criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday left more than 60 people dead. According to Governor Cláudio Castro (PL), 81 suspects were arrested. The raid is being described as the deadliest police operation in Rio’s history. According to the latest Genial/Quaest poll from October, 30% of voters cited violence as their top concern, followed by social issues at 18%. Chief of Staff Rui Costa and Justice and Public Security Minister Ricardo Lewandowski are traveling to Rio de Janeiro to meet with Governor Cláudio Castro to discuss the state’s public security situation.
