A possible Budget cut is driving the fiscal debate in Brasília. The deputy leader of the government in the House, Deputy Pedro Paulo (PSD-RJ), announced that he intends to present a complementary bill or an amendment to a matter that is already being analyzed in the House to formalize the government's proposal to carry out a minor cut in the public accounts this year. Today, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) will adjudicate an appeal by the Attorney General's Office (AGU) against a decision that recognized the right of retirees to opt for the application of the most beneficial rule in calculating the retirement benefit (lifetime review of the INSS), the impact of which is estimated in the 2024 Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) at R$ 480 billion to comply with the decision. Today, Justice Ricardo Lewandowski becomes the Minister of Justice and Public Security, replacing Flavio Dino, who will resume his term as senator and remain in office until February 21, when he will resign to take a seat on the STF on February 22.
