Abinader announced key figures of his economic cabinet

The president-elect Luis Abinader has announced who will make up his economic cabinet. The head of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, will be ratified in his post for two years. Miguel Ceara Hatton, renowned economist with a long history of work in economic development, will be the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, while the Minister of Finance will be Jochi Vicente, an expert in macroeconomics and corporate finance. Until 2019 Vicente served as President of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo. Alejandro Fernández will be appointed as Superintendent of Banks, Pedro Silverio as Economic Advisor to the President, María José Martínez as Vice Minister of Public Credit, José Rijo as head of the budget office and Biviana Riveiro as head of the export promotion agency. The expectation is that the announcement of the economic team of the president-elect will speed up the transition, at a time when the new administration needs to set strategy to confront the COVID-19 epidemic and to recover growth.
