Abinader's second year begins with ambiguous expectations

Last August 16th marked the first year of Luis Abinader’s presidency. It was a year marked by the pressures of handling the pandemic crisis, and the challenges of creating the necessary conditions for both a health and economic recovery.

During the first year, the political context was characterized by a part of the opposition cornered by accusations of corruption, and another part with a slightly belligerent attitude.

Although there are tangible achievements in this first year associated with a recovery in economic growth in 2021, which the authorities project at 10%, as well as a successful vaccination campaign, there are also signs that predict a second year that would require greater political skills from the government, in order to maintain its popularity levels.
