African leaders visit Kyiv

On June 16 African leaders arrived as a part of a mission to negotiate peace. They are due to travel to Russia. The delegates are the presidents of South Africa, Senegal, Zambia and the Comoros Islands. When they arrived in Kyiv a barrage of missiles hit the city. Ukraine condemned the missile attack as particularly cynical given the presence of peace envoys. Ukraine claimed it shot down all 12 missiles. African countries have suffered from high grain prices due to the war. The Ukrainians brought the Africans to Bucha, which is the site of what Ukraine says was a Russian massacre. Thus far Russia says it is confident that it can beat back the Ukrainian counter-offensive. There is no sign that either protagonist is in the mood for talks. African countries are more sympathetic to Russia than any other continent.
