An Express Lane to “Quick Wins”

Executive Summary

After taking the oath of office on October 20th, President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will have to quickly announce his dream team – his cabinet. He’ll also have to introduce the most appealing initiatives, able to win the hearts of not only his supporters, but also of the nation.

His list of quick wins may include:
1. Easing oil consumption subsidies;
2. Speeding up trains, to help people travel overland more easily;
3. Empowering the ship building industry, to improve sea transportation;
4. Empowering and revitalizing Dirgantara Indonesia (the Indonesian aerospace industry);
5. Making an executive order to adopt import substitution in food production; and
6. Creating stimuli for renewable energy development.

This report will analyze only the first potential quick win on this list: easing the oil consumption subsidy. We’ll discuss other potential quick wins in forthcoming special reports.
