Azerbaijan releases 10 Armenian POWs in return for minefield maps

On December 5 Baku released the men after Russian mediation. The release was facilitated by a meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia in November 2021. 30 Armenians were captured by Azerbaijan on November 16, and 20 of them remain prisoners. Azerbaijan and Armenia still dispute the ceasefire line. The Nagorno-Karabakh Region is heavily mined. Most of it is back in Azerbaijan hands but they are having trouble de-mining it. Over the past 12 months Baku says more than 24 of its soldiers have been killed by mines. Azerbaijan is trying to return refugees who fled the area when fighting first erupted in 1991.
