BCRD Raises Monetary Policy Rate

On September 30, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) decided to raise its monetary policy rate by 25 basis points, from 5.25% to 5.50% per year. It also increased the one-day liquidity expansion facility rate to 6.00% and the overnight deposit rate to 4.75%.The Central Bank said its decision responds to rising inflationary risks amid more persistent external and domestic supply shocks. It pointed in particular to higher oil prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East, disruptions to global transportation, adverse weather conditions, and tighter international financial conditions. According to the BCRD, the preventive adjustment is intended to keep inflation expectations anchored and limit potential second-round effects on prices.
