Bolsonaro insults opposition movements

During his participation in the inauguration of the Águas Lindas Campaign Hospital, located in the state of Goiás (GO), President Jair Bolsonaro made a statement that shows his willingness to keep the intense political polarization on the agenda. In his speech, Bolsonaro insulted his opposition by calling the pro-democracy acts, scheduled for this Sunday in several capitals, as “marginals, terrorists, potheads and unemployed people”.

In another gesture to the more conservative sectors, Bolsonaro announced that he will allow imports of weapons for individual use without taxes. The narrative adopted by the president serves to mobilize his supporters, especially on social media. Despite the increasing disapproval of the government – a consequence of the response to the coronavirus pandemic and the worsening economic scenario – the polarization narrative is more positive for Bolsonaro than for the opposition, which is divided and lacks a common agenda.
