Bolsonaro tries to minimize wear at the Mercosur Summit

During his participation in the virtual summit of the Mercosur, President Jair Bolsonaro made an appeal to the group of leaders to guide their negotiators to make free trade agreements with the European Union (EU) and the Efta (bloc formed by Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein), and left them ready to be signed later this semester. Bolsonaro said that, on the part of Brazil, his government is seeking to correct what he called “distorted opinions” that have harmed the country´s image abroad.

It is worth remembering that some European countries, such as France, Ireland and Austria, have signaled that they do not intend to ratify the agreement with Mercosur. These European countries cite the increase in deforestation in the current government and the encouragement of the taking of land that can harm indigenous and quilombola communities and the environment.
