Bridge in the Ukrainian conflict zone to be repaired

On July 31 the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) met in Minsk. The TCG consists of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE. They were negotiating about the conflict in Donbass. The OSCE announced that all parties have agreed to the demining of the area around Stanytsia Luhanska Bridge. This bridge is the only way to go between Ukrainian held land and rebel held land. Once the area is clear of mines repair of the bridge shall commence. The Red Cross has committed EUR 60 million to this project. This is a confidence building measure. Ukrainian forces and rebels have both reduced numbers near the front. The July 21 ceasefire is largely being honored. Further troop pullbacks may follow. Zelensky is committed to recovering all lost land. How is he going to do so without fighting? Russia and the rebels are keen to give peace a chance. There is no word on a long term solution. Eastern Ukraine might end up as part of a frozen conflict such as in Transdnistria, Abkhazia or South Ossetia. Moscow wants Ukraine to speak to rebels directly. Zelensky refuses to do so and speaks to them only via Russian intermediaries. His argument is that the rebels are Russian proxies anyway.
