Today marks the start of the National Congress’s recess. Legislative activities will resume during the week of August 4. Yesterday, President Lula delivered a nationally televised and broadcast speech addressing the U.S. government's decision to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian exports. He said that certain politicians are true traitors to the nation for supporting the measure. A Quaest/Genial poll showed that the tariff episode has had a positive impact on Lula, who has recovered some of his popularity. Furthermore, in simulated presidential races, Lula leads in all first round and runoff scenarios.
