Contradictory messages on when to start the discussion of the fiscal pact

Yesterday in an interview the Ministry of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, pointed out that the discussion of the fiscal pact would begin "now" and that its application would be in January 2022. However, today in a meeting in the National Palace with representatives of the business, labor and social sectors, President Luis Abinader pointed out that “right now we cannot undertake a tax reform; conditions will tell ”. He indicated that when the economic and social conditions are in place, the fiscal pact with social and business organizations will be discussed at that time. The discussion of the tax reform will cover both the elements associated with the efficiency of spending and taxes. According to the President, it will not only be about raising taxes, but it will also involve many tax cuts.
