Coronavirus vaccine mass trials in Russia

On September 8 Moscow announced that a coronavirus vaccine has been rolled out to the public. Up until now it has been mainly administered to soldiers. Now it is being trialed on volunteers from the general public.The vaccine - named Sputnik V- is due to enter general circulation. The Health Ministry voiced its confidence in the efficacy and safety of the vaccine. Medical staff and teacher are to be vaccinated first because they are essential workers in contact with the public. News outlets reported claims that top officials have already been vaccinated with Sputnik V.Gamaleya Research Center produced Sputnik V. Its estimates that 80 million doses are needed for Russia's 140 million people to achieve herd immunity. Over 25 000 people were tested in a Phase 3 Trial. Over 20 countries have ordered a total of a billion doses of Sputnik V.The country has sustained over 1 million cases. Only 18 000 people have died of itForeign reviews of Sputnik V say that is effective but longitudinal studies are needed to ensure that it is truly safe. If the vaccine is as good as Moscow says then this is a major feat for Russia.
