Czech-Russian row intensifies

On April 22 Prague said it shall place a limit on the number of people allowed to work at the Russian Embassy. Russia must reduce staff numbers to the same number of people the Czechs are allowed in the Moscow. The deadline is May 31.Moscow has vowed to respond in the same manner.The Czechs have 24 embassy staff in Moscow. Russia has 94 in Prague.The Czechs offered Russia a chance to end the diplomatic spat by permitting the 20 Czech diplomats due for expulsion to return to work by noon April 21. However, Russia did not respond. The EU and NATO have expressed solidarity with the Czechs. Slovakia expelled 3 Russian diplomats to support the Czechs.
