Danylyuk has resigned

UKRAINE - In Brief 30 Sep 2019 by Dmytro Boyarchuk

On Friday, Sept 27, Alex Danylyuk, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council wrote on his Facebook page that he confirms his resignation. Press-secretary of Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote on her page that Danylyuk has submitted a request for resignation before President departed to the US. Today media informed Zelenskiy has accepted the resignation. Danylyuk has an open conflict with Andriy Bohdan, the head of the Office of the President. Media wrote that Zelenskiy crossed Danylyuk out from the list of Ukrainian delegation to the US and this decision, allegedly, was the last drop for the secretary of National Security Council. The news is not good at all since Danylyuk’s presence in Zelenskiy team was seen as an evidence of restricted influence of Ihor Kolomoyskiy. Danylyuk was among the key persons who initiated nationalization of Privatbank and he was apparently resisting any efforts for potential reverse. Large budget allocated on the National Security Council at the budget project 2020 was seen as a signal that political influence of Alex Danylyuk is still substantial. Against this backdrop his resignation is a real surprise. We do not know what happened for sure. Definitely, Danylyuk has been fighting for increase of his role. And he was perfectly aware how his resignation will be perceived. Against this backdrop we cannot rule out Danylyuk pressing Zelenskiy to get extra power. And his resignation is just a result of failed attempt to boost his role. Whatever it was, we see one more evidence of dominating influence of Andriy Bohdan over the President. And this is not good at all…
