Disengagement proceedings in Ukraine Conflict

On October 29 the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) stated that the Ukrainian soldiers and pro-Moscow rebels had both withdrawn from the front line near Zolote. This one of the steps set out by the peace agreement signed in October. This should lead to a Normandy Format Summit. Germany and France are also supposed to be at the next summit. These countries are not honest brokers. They are both pro-Ukrainian. A pullback in Stanitsya Luhanska occurred in June. A similar pullback is supposed to transpire in the Donetsk area on November 4. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said that he wants to see the next summit take place. This is contingent on the ceasefire holding. Some have speculated that the Ukrainian Government might try to get the Steinmeier Formula passed by the Rada. That might not be easy. Some Ukrainians see the formula as sell out. President Zelensky visited Zolote a few days ago. He spoke to members of the ultra nationalist Azov Group. The Azov Group is a militia which is adamantly against the pull back.Both governments are giving peace a chance. But there are hardline elements on both sides over which the governments have little sway. It would be premature to say the conflict is over.
