Dominican Republic calls for urgent humanitarian assistance to Haiti and expresses its disagreement with the meeting of the Security Council in private format

In a statement to the United Nations, the Dominican Republic strongly regretted and condemned the assassination of the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, and expressed its condolences to the people and Government of Haiti. The Dominican Republic requests that the necessary assistance be provided so that the Haitian authorities can guarantee the security of the Haitian people and prevent instability from spreading to the Dominican territory and the rest of the region. It reiterates the call to urgently provide the humanitarian assistance required by the Haitian people. Through its ambassador, the Dominican Republic expressed its deep disagreement with the decision of the Security Council to hold the session on the situation in Haiti in a private format, and indicated that given the seriousness of the crisis in Haiti, the Security Council should have invited the Dominican Republic to participate actively, since it will be the country most affected in the event of an overflow of this crisis beyond its borders.
