Electoral kickoff

The electoral campaign for the August 9 open primaries officially started on July 12. As they are mandatory and simultaneous, all candidates have to participate.

However, as happened in previous elections, most political parties have already decided who will be their only candidate for the leading positions, such as president, or the governor of the Province of Buenos Aires. Therefore, this primary election will be more like a national poll. Nevertheless, it may have significant implications for public opinion.

The government hopes the results will continue to show a polarized election with the Kirchnerists, and that an improved economic outlook will be to its benefit in recovering some of the ground lost during the previous months.
