On April 7 the EU voted to ban Russian coal and to forbid Russian ships to dock in EU ports. The sanctions package include a ban on selling certain high tech goods to Russia. Moreover, many Russian owned yachts have been seized. The assets of several Russian banks have been frozen. The EU has forbidden the purchase of raw materials from Russia.The EU also voted another EUR 500 million in arms for Ukraine.The EU buys EUR 4 billion worth of coal from Russia annually. The EU is keen to phase out coal because it is the most polluting fuel. The coal ban only takes effect in August 2022.The EU is not banning Russian oil and gas. It aims to phase out by 2030. Some doubt that this is feasible. Trucks from Belarus and Russia are now banned from the EU.The EU has imposed sanctions on another 200 Russian people. Among them are Putin's daughters. Some suspected that Hungary would veto sanctions but this did not happen. In France Marine Le Pen is running for the presidency. There is a slim chance that she will win. She is more favorable to Russia than almost any other EU politician.
