Facebook accuses Russia of meddling in US election

On September 1 Facebook said that Russians are trying to sway the US presidential election. The FBI has been investigating. 13 Facebook accounts and 2 pages were set up by people claiming to be journalists. The accounts were aimed at left wingers. They have been taken down by Facebook for breaking rules against foreign agents.The Internet Research Agency (IRA) in Russia is accused of perpetrating the interference as it did in 2016. The network was gaining subscribers and likes. Fake identities were being created by the IRA. The IRA intended to post about hot button issues such as race, social justice, NATO, the EU, Western atrocities, global warming, Julian Assange, Israel, coronavirus, fracking, QAnon and US military campaigns. Freelance writers were hired to write pieces. IRA is subtler than last time but less effectual. Facebook and the FBI are smarter at detecting inauthentic activity. The IRA was aiming at left-wing Democrats and environmentalists to dissuade them from voting. The objective was to secure another Trump victory. The IRA was trying the same strategy in the UK. It targeted left wingers to persuade them to withdraw their support from the Labour Party. PeaceData was one of their websites. It was supposedly an anti-war website. It was on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Twitter has suspended five accounts linked to the Russian State.
