Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) took part in a political rally on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo on September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day, which drew strong turnout from Bolsonaro’s political base. The demonstration was held under the slogan “Lula and Alexandre de Moraes Out”. President Lula (PT) delivered a nationally televised address in which he defended Brazil’s national sovereignty. Lula rejected foreign interference in mineral development, oil exploration at the mouth of the Amazon River, and international trade. The decline in Lula’s approval rating is noteworthy. On August 26, 48% of respondents said they approved of the Lula administration. That figure has now fallen to 43%. Disapproval rose from 47% to 50%. At this point, there is no clear frontrunner in the presidential race.
