​For the first time during the COVID 19 pandemic, economic activity shows positive year-on-year growth

In February 2021, for the first time the Monthly Index of Economic Activity shows positive year-on-year growth, compared to the situation just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The growth rate was 1.1% in Feb 2021 compared to situation in 2020. The most dynamic economic activities have been construction (10.3%), mining (8.1%), local manufacturing (6.5%), health (6.4%), commerce (4.1%), real estate activities (2.2%), agriculture (1.4%) , communications (0.6%) and free zones (0.1%). Tourism contracted by 50.8%. The information was released by the Governor of the Central Bank, who also indicated that remittances showed a year-on-year growth of 27.6% in February 2021, while inflation in February 2021 was 0.68%.
