Putin finally granted Erdogan a summit in September, which bodes well for the future of “frenemy” relationship, but Erdogan’s hopes of midwifing a second grain deal are probably dead.

At home, both alliances are negotiating already about local election alliances, which will be held in March 2024. AKP-MHP are almost certain to run together, though this time MHP has a stronger hand in getting a lion’s share of second-tier urban centers. CHP and IYIP may cooperate in Istanbul and Ankara, but IYIP remains wary. After Imamoglu, Yavas of Ankara, too, threw his hat into the ring.

Both Turkmenistan and Israel contemplate sending their natural gas to Europe through Turkish infrastructure, though it is way too early to celebrate.
