On April 15 the US announced a new raft of sanctions. Biden also suggested meeting Putin in person. Moscow is spinning the suggestion as a win for them. The US said sanctions were due to malevolent cyberactivity, corruption, the poisoning of Navalny with a chemical weapon and the broader attack on dissidents.From June 14 2021 US financial organizations shall be prohibited from participating in Russian Government bond auctions.32 individuals and organizations are sanctioned for allegedly interfering in the 2020 election. Those on the lost will not be allowed to enter the United States and any assets they have there will be frozen.Companies controlled by Yevgeniy Prigozhin are sanctioned. The man himself is on the FBI most wanted list.Companies that built the bridge to Crimea have been sanctioned. 5 Crimean bureaucrats have also been sanctioned including the head of the local FSB. Tech companies connected to the Defense Ministry have been sanctioned. The reason is supposedly cyber activity. Russian Foreign Intelligence (SVR) cyber groups such as APT29, Cozy Bear and the Dukes have been sanctioned. They allegedly carried out the SolarWinds attack in 2020.US companies and citizens are forbidden from doing business with sanctioned persons or organizations. Surprsingly the sanctions packages does not include anything against Nord Stream 2. The US also said the sanctions are retaliating against Russia for reports that Moscow paid a reward for killing US military personnel. Russia has long been preparing for sanctions to be imposed.
