Internal American row puts Ukraine in a tricky position

Democrats in the US have accused Trump of asking the Ukrainians to pass on embarrassing information about Joe Biden. Former Vice-President Biden is the front runner for the Democratic Party's nomination in 2020. President Trump confirmed that he asked Ukraine to disclose damaging material on Biden. When Biden was Vice-President he allegedly threatened to withhold aid from Ukraine unless Ukraine dropped an investigation into his son. Biden's son was involved in a gas company in Ukraine.President Zelensky is in an invidious position. He needs to get along with Trump. On the other hand he does not wish to sour relations with the Democrats. Trump's approval rating is -12%. At this rate he will lose the presidential election in 2020. Whatever Zelensky does it could be seen as interfering in the US presidential election.
