Iran War Day 3: Oil and gas facilities struck, Iran downplays strikes on GCC, US clarifies imminent threat claim

This update is going out as Monday comes to a close in the US and the GCC and Iran begin Tuesday morning. US-Iran developments The US says it has struck 1,250 targets so far, including all 11 ships. The Institute for the Study of War's daily updates provide a good analysis of the targeting within Iran. The body count of American service members has increased to 6 as bodies were found. All were killed in a strike on Kuwait on Sunday. 18 are reported to have been seriously injured in various locations. Three F-15s were shot down over Kuwait, reportedly by friendly fire from Kuwaiti air defenses. There are unconfirmed reports that the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier, off the coast of Israel, may be headed to the Suez Canal and would take about 5-6 days to reach the Arabian sea where the USS Abraham Lincoln is operating. Trump made several comments related to the time frame, including that it could last “four weeks or more… until objectives are achieved” (WH) Mario Rubio explained that the “imminent threat” was that Israel was going to attack Iran anyway, before it built up too large a stockpile of missiles; Rubio said that if Israel had attacked alone, then Iran would have retaliated against US bases in the region anyway, hence the justification for the war. Speaker Mike Johnson said that this meant the war was defensive. However, Iran did not attack a US base in June 2025 during the period of Israeli bombing, only doing so (in a nominal way with unarmed missiles) after the US also bombed nuclear sites.
