Is the worst over yet?
While it is not officially announced, Turkey’s number one public enemy, PKK almost certainly said farewell to arms. Erdogan and Bahceli already began selling promises of peace, meaning they are moving to the next stage of negotiating with “Apo” Ocalan and pro-Kurdish DEM Party. The politics author still maintains that Erdogan can’t deliver even the basics of what Kurds want to underwrite a new Constitution, but he may surprise everyone.
On the other side of Rubicon, where CHP chair Ozel sweats to keep the streets active to resist further below-the-belt punches from Erdogan, things are not going too well. Street anger seems to be calming, perhaps overshadowed by hopes of a terror-free future. Yet, this premise keeps a scary idea in its bosom: “Operations” against CHP will start again.
