Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke auditions for world's best as William and Kate arrive in Jamaica. His stated agenda - "Reform with ambition"

Jamaica’s budget debate was concluded last week by Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke on Tuesday, March 22, just as Prince William and his wife Kate were arriving in Jamaica as part of their three-nation royal visit of Belize, Jamaica and The Bahamas, all of which still have the Queen as their head of state. It is perhaps unfortunate that the focus of the international media (particularly that of the UK) was mainly on the prospect of these countries' “moving on”, to use the words of Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness to William, in terms of Jamaica’s constitutional arrangements, rather than focusing on Jamaica’s current example as a champion of economic orthodoxy, both for the emerging world and indeed for developed nations. Minister Clarke may even be an example for the UK’s own Goldman Sachs alumni Chancellor (like Minister Clarke), who made his budget speech a day later.
