Kazakhstan bring elections forward

On September 16 Kazakhstan announced that a presidential election will be held in fall 2022. This is a surprise. The election was not due until December 2024. Why is the president bringing it forward? Presumably he considered that the situation will be more propitious for him now. The ostensible reason is that after the January 2022 unrest he needs to reassert his authority. President Tokayev became president when Nazarbayev suddenly resigned in 2019. Tokayev then held a presidential election although this was not constitutionally necessary. Kazakhstan announced that its capital, Nursultan City, will return to its former name Astana. Nursultan is the first name of the former president, Nazarbayev, who is now disfavored.
