Lukashenka names two possible successors

On March 19 Lukashenka for the first time ever publicly discussed two potential replacement for him as a president. He named the ex health minister Uladzimer Karanik and the ex Interior Minister Yury Karayev. Both are under US sanctions.Why does Lukashenka think either of these men might be worthy to succeed him? Both are known for their doglike loyalty and seem to share his outlook. Neither is very charismatic. If either took over then Lukashenka could still be the power behind the throne especially if he invented a new title for himself. It would be like Nazarbayev's retirement in Kazakhstan in 2019. Lukashenka's demarche seems to be because he is now much more secure than a few months ago. Meanwhile the opposition leader Svitlana Tsikhanouskaya is urging her supporters to continue protesting.
