Lula secures Chinese investments during the CELAC forum, Brazil negotiates a TikTok data center project tied to energy infrastructure, and the opposition files a request for a Joint CPI on the INSS fraud
President Lula continues his official agenda in China. Yesterday, May 12, Apex Brasil announced that R$ 27 billion in investments in Brazil were secured from Chinese companies. The government highlighted investment commitments from automaker GWM and the Chinese delivery platform Meituan. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira (PSD), also stated that Brazil is negotiating with TikTok an investment of around R$ 50 billion in data centers in the state of Ceará. Back in Brazil, the opposition has formally filed the request for a Joint CPI to investigate fraud in the INSS. The request was signed by 36 senators and 223 federal representatives. The minimum required support was 27 senators and 171 representatives.
