With this report, we take pleasure in initiating our coverage of Uruguay, a country that shares many social and cultural customs with its neighbor on the west coast of the Rio de la Plata, while maintaining its unique social identity, political forces, and consequent economic policies. In our introductory report, we provide a general overview of Uruguay’s political and economic background in order to better understand the country's economic policies. Specifically, we start with a concise political retrospective, which leads us into today’s economic perspectives, to get a sense of the risks and opportunities the economy presents.
