Minor Rotations

The Ministry of Economic Development, the Central Bank and the Presidential Administration are currently engaged in a process of widespread top management rotation. New heads of agencies are bringing in their former employees, thereby significantly influencing the work of agencies as a whole. Although many resignations and appointments have already taken place, there are more to follow.

Russia continues to oppose a military operation against the Syrian Government as it believes this may further destabilize the situation in the region. Contrary to popular belief, it is rather an international system stability and security concern than purely an attempt to promote Russia’s influence in the region. However, Moscow also understands that a military intervention in Syria would further decrease Russian power in the Middle East.

New leadership in Russia’s Far East may be an indication of changes coming in the region. President Putin replaced a Yeltsin-era politician, Victor Ishaev, with the younger and more trusted Yuri Trutnev as his Plenitpotentiary Representative there.

Polls show that Russians have a largely negative view about Moscow. They believe that Moscow is prosperous at other regions’ expense and do not want their children to live there.
