Moldova bans the Z symbol

On April 22 the President of Moldova signed a law forbidding display of the ribbon of St George, which is a Russian patriotic symbol, as well as Z and V, which are seen to be indicative of support for Russia's war in Ukraine. The penalty for violation of this law is a fine of USD 49, which is a week's salary for many Moldovans.Former President Igor Dodon denounced the move. Dodon is pro-Moscow. Dodon said he will organize a Victory March on May 9 to commemorate the Soviet victory in 1945. Moldova no longer officially marks the occasion, saying it has been misused by Russia.On April 19 Lithuania also banned the Z and V symbols.
