More Nazarbayev relatives being removed from posts confirms his loss of power

On January 15 two sons-in-law of the Leader of the Nation lost their positions. Kairat Sharipbayev was head of QazaqGas. He is married to Darigha Nazarbayeva - the eldest daughter of the Leader of the Nation. Dimash Dosanov was in the KazTranOil. Timur Kulibaev (another son in law) has been removed from his post in Atakemen.Samat Abish (Nazarbayev's nephew) has been dismissed as deputy chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB). Some thought that Abish would eventually take over as president. Nazarbayev's daugther ran a car recycling business. It has been confiscated.Tokayev said he wanted those who have made fortunes over the past 30 years to donate to charity. The moves prove that Nazarbayev really has lost his influence. He and his family are immune from prosecution but perhaps that will change.Nazarbayev has not been seen in public since December 2021. This could be due to infirmity or a desire not to inflame the situation or Tokayev's keeping him hidden or a combination of the foregoing.
