More wear on Bolsonaro for COVID-19 decisions

The controversy surrounding the disclosure of cases and deaths by COVID-19 represents a new focus of wear for the Jair Bolsonaro government. The Ministry of Health´s decision to change the way coronavirus data is disclosed caused negative repercussions in public opinion.

Last Saturday, the Ministry´s website started to announce only the daily number of infected and deaths, without consolidated numbers. The decision generated a strong negative reaction not only in the press and opposition, but also abroad.

Even though the Ministry of Health subsequently walked back last Saturday´s decision, the credibility of the data announced by the government came into question, mainly after a “correction of duplications” in the number of deaths from COVID-19.
