RUSSIA / FSU POLITICS - In Brief 20 Jan 2021 by Alex Teddy

On January 19 Alexei Navalny's supporters published a video showing Putin's house Paraskoveyevka. The house is by the Black Sea. The money for its construction was allegedly plundered from the treasury. Aerial footage of the palace was released. It is unclear how the footage was obtained since there is a no-fly zone over the palace. The palace has its own tunnel to the Black Sea. It is exceptionally extravagant and is surrounded by a fence. Armed guards patrol the perimeter. The estate is 7,000 hectares.Registration documents were used to bolster the claims. It has been known for 10 years that this is an unofficial residence of the president. The estate is owned by the FSB but they rent it out. Why would the internal security service need to own such an opulent palace? Documents show it is being rented for ''research, hunting, education and fishing purposes.'' Putin is a keen fisherman. Navalny alleged that Putin placed his cronies at the top of semi-state energy companies. In return they laundered billions of USD for him.Navalny is in jail awaiting trial for libeling a war veteran.Over 23 million people have seen Navalny's video on YouTube.
