New evidence from the Vorcaro case was presented by the Federal Police, the opposition filed impeachment requests against Justice Moraes, and the Joint Committee may vote on the so-called “blouse tax”
Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice André Mendonça, who is overseeing the investigations into fraud involving Banco Master, suggested in a decision released on Tuesday (September 1) that new evidence presented by the Federal Police (PF) in the case be reviewed by the full Court. Mendonça lifted the confidentiality restrictions on a proceeding to which a Federal Police report had been attached. The document revealed messages showing banker Daniel Vorcaro’s relationship with STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet. Pressure on Alexandre de Moraes is enormous, with some even calling for his resignation—something that, of course, is not expected to happen. The opposition in the Senate has filed new impeachment requests against the justice. The Joint Committee reviewing the so-called “blouse tax” may vote today on the report presented by Senator Leila Barros (PDT-DF). Once approved, the text will proceed to the Lower House floor and then to the Senate. The expectation is that voting will be completed this week.
