New tension between the STF and the military

​After a period of less tension between the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the military, an event that occurred last weekend could bring new developments.

When participating in a live stream last Saturday, STF minister Gilmar Mendes said that the Army was associated with “genocide” in reference to the role of military personnel in the Ministry of Health during the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Gilmar also said that society could no longer tolerate the “void” in the Ministry of Health.

Yesterday, after the minister´s statements, the Ministry of Defense released a note praising the action of the Armed Forces in combating the pandemic.
