President Erdogan announced his intention to run again, thus officially starting the presidential race. While the announcement was a statement of the obvious, it triggers several tremors, as well as revealing the strategies of the opposing camps. Spoiler alert: The announcement has no bearing on election timing.

Turkey is facing a budding Western Alliance of numerous disparate actors, coordinated by Greece. While Turkey has in the past gleefully embraced her “Precious Loneliness”, the fragile economy may not withstand a coordinated Western PR assault.

The opposition is unifying six parties’ election day preparations, while developing the modus operandi of the next president, who shall have to abrogate significant authority. It also promised to unveil three major economic steps on Monday.
