North Korean leader tours Russian defense installations

On September 16 Kim Jong Un continued his tour of the Russian Far East. He went to an aircraft factory and visited a warship.  This is only Kim's 7th visit abroad in his 12 years in power. This underscores the importance he attaches to his relationship with Russia. This is his first trip abroad since COVID.  Western analysts are worried that Russia will strike a deal with North Korea despite UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea. It is suspected that Russia wants North Korean shells and missiles of Soviet origin. North Korea wants help launching a spy satellite. It tried and failed to do so earlier in 2023. But Moscow is adamant that it will not strike a deal with North Korea. North Korea badly needs food and oil. It is suspected that North Korea exports coal to Russia that Russia then sells on. There are North Korean laborers in inhospitable regions of Russia where there are labor shortages.  Kim took several generals with him. He and Putin exchanged gifts of rifles. Kim also visited the Vostochny Cosmodrome. There Putin spoke of the possibility of military links. Kim has also been shown a Kinzhal missile system.
