Peru: Fujimori and Alvarez lead in the polls

Last night pollsters released their latest poll and Keiko Fujimori from Fuerza Popular kept their lead in most polls. Surprising was the run of Carlos Álvarez from Pais para todos, a well known right-wing comedian and he overtook Rafael López Aliaga from Renovation Popular as the second runner. Also surprising was the run by Ricardo Belmont from Obras party, a politician that had been twice mayor of Lima. The radical left, Roberto Sánchez from Juntos por el Peru and having several of former President Pedro Castillo in his Senate and Deputies list has trailed and according to Datum poll is in six place. Electoral Law only allows polls until one week before the election date, April 12th, so these are the last published polls, although pollster would keep monitoring and there may be a few more confidential during the week. Several messages. 1. it is apparent that Fujimori may win the election; 2. The second place is in a tie between Alvarez and Lopez de Aliaga, but the former is trending upwards and the latter trailing; 3. We cannot rule out that a leftist candidate may move up and polls may not capture well their performance since most of the votes comes from rural areas. With the available information, the changes of Sanchez are diminishing; 4. Jorge Nieto, a former Cabinet member during Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and center left inclined, is moving up and taking the space from Alfonso López Chau from Ahora Nation and from Roberto Sánchez. On the Senate and Congress, polls only tell us who is wining, but cannot tell the anticipated composition in terms of seats.
