President Abinader creates a Working Group for the International Price Crisis

This morning President Abinader summoned businessmen and representatives of the labor, economic and social sectors to the formation of a Working Group for the International Price Crisis. The attendees made the commitment to participate in the dialogue and within 10 days they must submit proposals for policy measures to mitigate the impact of the economic crisis generated by COVID 19. The creation of the Working Group is the government's response to the growing demand and concern of the citizens about the increase in prices. Last May, monthly inflation was 0.65%, showing an acceleration with respect to the levels existing in the last months of April (0.41%) and March (0.60%). Year-on-year inflation in May 2021 was 10.48%, the highest level seen since October 2008. After this date there have only been two months with year-on-year inflation levels above 10%: in August 2011 and now in May 2021.
