President Putin suggests dismissing his prosecutor-general Yuri Chaika

On January 20 Putin proposed Igor Krasnov to take over Chaika's post. Krasnov is currently Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee. The proposal is part of a more general shakeup of government personnel. The Federal Council is considering the president's proposal. It is all but certain that they will agree. Chaika has held his post since 2006. The 68 year old is unswerving in his loyalty. He led the charge against the Jehovah's Witnesses.Krasnov has been in state service for 23 years. He is 44 years old and he has handled several major investigations.
