President Ramaphosa's Cabinet: Cleansing and Reviving the ANC- It is complicated!

President Ramaphosa have been forced to delay his cabinet appointments and announcement for third time in a row. Not something that he can fully control, and it is all driven by the internal "cleansing processes of the ANC". As part of the ANC's moral revival strategy that Ramaphosa has been championing, the party has given new life and profile to its Integrity Commission, populated by some veterans of the party who have impeccable track records, and fully committed to return the party to its glory days of ethics and public service. Of course, the Integrity Commission works under, and reports to, the Secretary General’s Office (SGO) of the party. SGO is, for the moment, occupied by some very controversial characters including the party’s Secretary General- Mr Ace Magashule- who is the subject of a book called: “The Gangster State”. This refers to his term as the premier of the Free State Province where since 2009 he is alleged to have governed the province more like a mafia state. So far, he has taken no legal actions to defend himself against the allegations. In the run up to putting his cabinet together for announcement on last Sunday, President Ramaphosa was tripped by the fact that his deputy, Mr David Mabuza, found himself on the list of 22 members of the ANC Parliamentarians who had been called to meet with the Integrity Commission. Broadly and generically speaking, these individuals were claimed to have brought the ANC’s name into disrepute. Some members like Malusi Gigaba and Nomvula Mokonyane reacted by pulling out of the Parliament.
