President Zuma's sunset week

South Africa is once again abuzz with speculations and excitements about President Zuma. This time it is not about what Zuma will do, rather what will be done to Zuma. This is a regime change for Zuma's decade of unquestioned control and dominance. Whereas during the past decade he had all the levers of power under his control, he now finds himself with few effective options. Within the ANC there is a rapidly declining support base and reliable allegiance for Zuma, in amongst the ANC alliance members such as COSATU and the SA Communist Party, he only has enemies, and the broader SA nation cannot wait to see his back.The newly elected ANC president, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, is criss-crossing the country to build support and momentum to make a big announcement to usher in the new phase in the country based on revival of the ANC and rejuvenation of the SA economy. The ANC’s Annual Statement, historically known as "The January 8th Statement", is due to be made public next Saturday, January 13th! As the President of the ANC, Mr Ramaphosa is to announce to the nation what is the roadmap for the year ahead, and what the ANC, as the governing party, expects of the country’s Government. This then begs the question of who will lead the Government for the year ahead. That is why it is the crunch time for Zuma. Between now and Saturday the 13th, the ANC has to hammer out a way out- Zuma at the helm of government is not an option for a variety of reasons.There are a few options ranging from resignation to impeachment.
