President Zuma vs Assembly of People of South Africa

Today may well mark a turning point in the evolving Constitutional Democracy in South Africa. As I predicted over the past two days, this week is pregnant with political economy surprises....The long-awaited Public Protector's Report on State Capture was released by the order of the High Court after President Zuma unexpectedly withdrew its application to interdict the publication of the Report. Whilst the court was busy with arguments and counter-arguments on who should pay the legal fees, the Assembly of People of SA was on the march under the banner of Save SA Movement. For the first time, social activists, stalwarts of anti-Apartheid movement, x-Ministers, religious leaders, and business leaders, across the political and ideological divide, assembled to end state capture. Their demand is for President Zuma to step down as they argue that for as long as he is in the office, SA is vulnerable to not only state capture but also socio-political crises emanating from his unethical, corrupt and primitive governance style. Having become an icon of poor governance and corruption, Zuma needs to go- so argues the Assembly of People. This opens a new chapter in the democratic dispensation of SA- a chapter wherein the political parties are brushed away and the people are moving to fill a leadership vacuum that has been created by the governing party of the ANC Alliance. Ordinarily the ANC should have taken the lead in rectifying the errors of its deployed president. The ANC's failure then has be used to sideline the party in the process.
