Pro-Kremlin bloggers despondent about the war

RUSSIA / FSU POLITICS - In Brief 15 Sep 2022 by Alex Teddy

Pro-Putin social media stars have castigated the underperformance of the Russia Military. Those who are ardently pro-war have been candid about Russia reverses since September 6. Pro-war bloggers are active on Telegram. They have called for a declaration of war, the draft and the use of heavier weapons. They criticize the government for using the air force much and sending troops to unnecessary war games in the Fast East. Some of the pro-war bloggers are close to the Wagner private military company. These pro-war bloggers are brought to the front when ordinary journalists are not. They tend to publish reports that Western sources consider more accurate than official Russian statements. Some of them are embedded in the Russian Army.  Starshe Eddi is a pro-war blogger who said that Ukraine had outplayed Russia. Rybar is a blogger with 800 000 followers. His maps and photos have made him popular.  Strelkov is a pro-war blogger who used to be an intelligence officer. He said that Russia has lost the war! The blogosphere has dubbed recent events ''catastrophic.'' The pro-Kremlin bloggers say the war is justified and allegations of Russian atrocities are bogus. But they lacerate the Russian high command and Defense Ministry for incompetence and lassitude. Censorship has stopped independent journalism. Pro-war bloggers are tolerated because of their vociferous nationalism. Dishonoring the Russian Military is a crime. Putin's spokesman said free speech is allowed but some of these bloggers have come perilously close to transgressing the law.
